KARACHI: The theme of this year’s World Environment Day, as announced by the United Nations Environment Program, is “Beat Plastic Pollution,” which calls for individual and collective action to control the menace of plastic pollution. 
Plastic pollution has emerged as a formidable environmental challenge, inflicting devastating consequences upon fragile ecosystems, imperiling marine life, and posing significant threats to human health. Acutely conscious of the gravity of this predicament, SEPA wholeheartedly commits to assuming a proactive role in proffering innovative solutions to confront plastic pollution head-on effectively. By synergistically aligning with the global efforts on World Environment Day, SEPA endeavors to raise widespread awareness regarding the imperative need for sustainable practices and the compelling urgency for collective action.
Embracing a comprehensive approach, SEPA actively spearheads an array of initiatives specifically tailored to curtail plastic waste and foster the adoption of sustainable alternatives. 
It actively leads initiatives to combat plastic pollution and promote sustainability. This includes plastic-free campaigns, promoting biodegradable plastics, establishing efficient waste management systems, and fostering stakeholder partnerships for collective action. Also, SEPA aims to create a plastic-free future and drive the adoption of eco-friendly alternatives.
The agency wholeheartedly engages in synergistic cooperation with governmental bodies, private sector entities, non-governmental organizations, and local communities, forging powerful alliances to engender collective action in confronting the scourge of plastic pollution. It is through such concerted efforts that SEPA and its esteemed partners aspire to effectuate a tangible, enduring impact on the environment.
World Environment Day is being observed worldwide to renew humanity’s commitment to improving, protecting, and rehabilitating the environment. It also aims to raise public awareness about the environment and its related issues through various communication tools, including print, electronic, and web media. It is pertinent to mention that the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency celebrates World Environment Day annually by arranging different activities, including seminars, tree plantations, beach cleanings, cycling events, etc
