Round table discussion on Trade Climate & Green Shipping held on September 14, 2023

discussion on Trade Climate & Green Shipping held on September 14, 2023. The
main objective of the 2 nd round table is to discuss and recommend measures that
Pakistani shipping stakeholders may commit to and announce by the forthcoming
2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai as part of the
“Green Shipping Challenge. Special presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry
launched the Green Shipping Challenge at COP27, and countries, ports and
companies made more than 40 major announcements on issues such as innovations
for ships, expansion in low – or zero – emission fuels and policies to help promote
the uptake of next-generation vessels. During the meeting Director General,
Sindh, EPA highlighted the following issues.
1. Implementation of International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution
from Ships (MARPOL).
2. Green infrastructure Development
3. Emission reduction at port
4. Oil spills contingency plan
5. Harmful dangerous substances
6. National Action Plan
